Leading Provider of Residential and Vocational Services is Focused
on Continuous Improvements to Service Quality
PITTSBURGH, PA, March 13, 2006 - Esteam, LLC, a leading provider
of comprehensive software solutions for human services agencies, today
announced that Passavant Memorial Homes, one of western Pennsylvania's
oldest and most respected providers of residential and vocational services
to people with developmental disabilities, has selected Esteam Total:
Record, a software application designed to help human services agencies
dramatically improve clinical and reimbursement processes, and support
continuous improvement efforts.
Passavant selected TOTAL: Record, in part, to help the organization meet
a wide range of constantly changing clinical and financial reporting
requirements. Passavant will also utilize TOTAL: Record for its subsidiary
company, PDC Pharmacy, which provides medical management services to
more than 2,000 individuals for companies in the mental health and mental
retardation industry.
"For Passavant or any human services provider, the ability to input units of
service in an accurate and timely manner is the key to securing reimbursements
from the various counties we serve," says Patrick DeMico, Passavant chief operating
officer and vice president. "In order to reduce rejections that can affect cash
flow, our billing has to be correct the first time.
"We have a rapidly growing need to integrate all aspects of billing for residential,
day support and home-based support services throughout our organization," says
DeMico. "Esteam's TOTAL: Record provides a way to streamline these tasks to help
us meet not only our current needs, but also position us for the future."
Passavant now provides services to individuals in nine western Pennsylvania
counties-each with its own, unique standards for categorizing individuals
and the services they receive. As a result, Passavant must create a unique
billing code, negotiate reimbursement rates, and track and bill services
against that rate for each person served.
In addition, state Medicaid service reimbursements are changing with
the advent of the Provider Reimbursement and Operations Management Information
System (PROMISe), the new claims processing and management system now
being piloted in several counties in the state. Once fully implemented,
PROMISe will provide a single, uniform system-and a detailed set of service
codes-for managing patient information and claims processing.
Organizations like Passavant, which participates in PROMISe pilot projects
in several counties, are searching for technology that supports the shift
to PROMISe and a fee-for-service environment. By providing a single repository
for clinical and financial information, TOTAL: Record eliminates repetitive
data entry and the related potential for human error, while also helping
users generate invoices that meet each payor's specific coding and related
requirements. As a result, Passavant gains the flexibility to quickly
and easily respond to changes in billing and other paperwork requirements.
"TOTAL: Record gives us a way to capture and organize service and billing information
within a single database, along with the flexibility to adapt information to
meet the different requirements of each county we work with," DeMico says. "Improving
our efficiency will allow us to reduce invoice rejections, shorten payment on
receivables, and improve cash flow.
"Equally important, streamlining paperwork and billing processes will help us
expand our services more effectively," DeMico adds. "We believe that TOTAL: Record
will help augment our growth and will be an important support service for us
in the future."
"We are extremely pleased to have been selected to provide such a critical software
and services solution to Passavant Memorial Homes," says George Pashel, president
of Esteam.
" An organization's ability to deliver high-quality services rests on a sound
financial foundation. TOTAL: Record strengthens that foundation by helping to
enhance Passavant's bottom-line performance. In addition, TOTAL: Record's flexibility
and reporting capabilities can provide remarkable operational visibility, enabling
Passavant to utilize the resulting information and find new and innovative approaches
to improve the quality of services they provide."
